The Importance of this Project

No Place to be Somebody” is truly a historic piece. It was the first play written by an African American, Charles Gordone , to win The Pulitizer Prize. Although it received critical acclaim while at New York's Public Theater, it was Ashton Springer, the man recognized as Broadway's first black producer, who brought it to a wider audience thru a Broadway revival and national tour.

This production of, “No Place to be Somebody" is staged as a tribute to these pioneers of the American Theatre.
